Launchings

Launched my Skunk Island Skiff sailing version built from plywood and pine. Douglas fir mast, spars and oats. Stainless steel fasteners and hardware.

Using Nick Schade's book,  "The Strip-Built Sea Kayak," Perry Risley built this 17' x 21' Guilllemot kayak and paddle. He made both boat and paddle of ash and Western red cedar with white accents of poplar. He mentions that Michael Earle was a tremendous help to him.

Terry Matthews of Mt. Vernon, WA, built not one but two boats for his granddaughter, Etta Cameron, who was  launched herself in April 2010.

Tom Hill designed this Charlotte lapstrake canoe, named FIDDLEHEAD by builder Bob MacEwen of Brunswick, ME. With a length of 11′6″ and beam of 2′4″, she weighs only 27 pounds.

When his first granddaughter was born, Todd Roberts wanted to build her an heirloom cradle. He thought a canoe cradle would be just the ticket as he could use birchbark from his land for the cradle’s hull. Todd developed his own design after researching canoes and cradle boats.

John Horst writes "I designed and built (actually just built) this 16' x 4' boat for rowing and fishing on Cabbage Creek and the ICW in Ponte Vedra, FL." He used 5/16" cypress planking over resorcinol-laminated ash frames.

After reading Mike O’Brien’s review of Oonagh in WB No. 237, David Keller thought it was just the boat to fit his needs. He hadn't built a boat before, didn’t let that prevent him from ordering plans from Doug Hylan (http://www.dhylanboats.com).

David Smith spent two years building this Sharpie ketch OUTBOUND II, a modification of WoodenBoat plan #42. Launched on June 23, 2003, the hull, cockpit, and cabin are plywood covered in fiberglass cloth and epoxy.

Carol Knickman took an off-site WoodenBoat class in the fall of 2012.

The Ruback family races its two Nutshell Prams on Seal Bay in Vinalhaven, Maine, a dream that came true after parents Richard and Elaine built them over the winter and launched them in August, 2001.
